Spangles McNasty and the Fish of Gold is the first in a new young fiction series. Published by Andersen Press in May 2016.
Spangles McNasty is nasty to everyone and everything, everywhere, all of the time. His top five favourite nasties are: pulling faces at old ladies, shouting at babies, farting in libraries, eating cold chips from bins and best of all, collecting other people's spangly things. He does this 'collecting' or 'stealing' as everyone else spells it, with his friend and accomplice Sausage-face Pete in Bitterly Bay, the oddest seaside town on the planet of Earth.
Spangles and Sausage think goldfish really are made of gold and have a nasty plan to get rich quick. Can local boy Freddie Taylor save all the golden fishies from the melting pot? He'll need a little help from the good people of Bitterly Bay, but they're busy with puzzlers of their own, such as: what do you do with haunted custard? can you jet ski into the future? and just how old is Wendy McKenzie?
Spangles McNasty and the Fish of Gold' is currently nominated for the Lancashire Fantastic Book Award 2017 and was also longlisted for the Branford Boase Award 2016.
